Artivism in Maine- The Prelude

Freedom & Justice Summit – The Prelude

Film &Discussion: InhuMAINE

Rogan O’Donnell, MS, is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling, founder of Common Ground Friends—a 501(c)(3) behavioral and mental health nonprofit—and the documentarian behind InhuMAINE, a 78-minute feature-length film exploring homelessness, behavioral, mental, and physical health issues, resilience, and systemic neglect in Bangor, Maine, a microcosum to the country.

With over three decades in recovery and extensive experience in co-occurring behavioral and mental health, O’Donnell integrates existential trauma-informed, person-centered, and humanistic approaches in both clinical and community settings. His work bridges counseling, social entrepreneurship, and advocacy—merging ACA ethics with narrative practice to humanize marginalized populations and foster systems change.

Through InhuMAINE and his clinical training, O’Donnell models an integrative path of ethical engagement, empathy, and social responsibility, inviting all of us to view helping relationships as both personal and systemic acts of compassion.

InhuMAINE is a 78-minute feature documentary filmed over 19 months that reveals the intersection of homelessness, mental illness, addiction, and stigma in Bangor, Maine. This session integrates counseling theory with documentary storytelling to explore how trauma-informed, narrative-based, and system-level interventions promote healing and advocacy. Through selected film clips, clinical reflection, and discussion, participants will examine ethical dilemmas, resilience narratives, and collaborative care across behavioral and mental health. Grounded in ACA ethical principles and CACREP standards, InhuMAINE provides a framework for seeing, hearing, and honoring those too often rendered invisible.
